When Matheson Jr. High English teacher Vicki Rasely challenged her students to create a project detailing what they want in their future, two brothers went full steam to learn about their interests.
Tristen and Trevor Tharp both aspire to hold public office some day. After receiving their project instructions, Tristen emailed President Barack Obama, and Trevor emailed Utah Governor Gary Herbert.
They didn’t receive a response from the White House, but they did receive an invitation to visit the Utah State Capitol for a photo op and interview with Governor Herbert.
“It was awesome,” both boys said.

Matheson JHS is very proud of Tristan and Trevor. These students are great examples of perseverance and self-advocacy, two characteristics MJHS strives to instill in our students. Way to go, boys!
