A large model pirate ship docked outside the front doors of Brockbank Jr. High signaled the dawn of a new era for the school.
Beginning the 2016-17 school year, Cyprus High School will shift from a 10-12 grade model to a 9-12 grade model. As a result of the change, Brockbank will be repurposed as a satellite campus for the high school to adequately accommodate the influx of students at Cyprus. Students who were slated to attend Brockbank for 7th and 8th grade will begin attending Matheson Jr. High, which has the capacity to serve all 7-8 grade students in the Cyprus High network.
Brockbank’s ‘We’ve Been Pirated’ event allowed current and former students to reflect on the school’s 65-year history as a junior high school.
Granite School District assistant superintendent Mike Fraser is one of many former Brockbank students with fond memories of the school.
“It’s a special place. Everyone in the Magna community looked forward to attending Brockbank because, at that time, it was the only feeder school to Cyprus.”
While its purpose may be changing, Brockbank will surely continue to be a special place for all students who walk inside.
