Hunter High students and staff raised more than $4,000 to grant the wish of a teen diagnosed with cerebral palsy. McKelle has always wanted to visit to Disney World to see her favorite princesses.
“We went asking neighbors, we’ve been selling wristbands and t-shirts, we are hosting a dodge ball tournament, and we’ve been selling tickets to ‘pie a teacher’,” said Hunter High student Diana Samphon.
A school-wide assembly to cap off the fundraier involved members of Hunter’s student government performing a number of challenges – eating raw onion, cutting off chunks of hair, letting a tarantula walk on them – as a result of the school reaching incremental fundraising goals. Toward the end of the assembly, a few Hunter High student body officers dressed up as Disney princesses to present the check to Mckelle.
