March 2017Granite Schools

Students in Granite Park Junior High’s after school program worked hard all year in preparation for a field trip to Eagle View School in Fort Duchesne.

This wasn’t your average ‘look-and-see’ field trip, though. This journey was about students from all over the world coming together in a celebration of culture, respect, understanding, diversity, and opportunity.

Eagle View primarily serves members of the Ute Indian Tribe, and for many Granite Park students who had not previously traveled Utah beyond Salt Lake City, it was a golden opportunity learn about the contributions and culture of the Ute people.

Leading up to the trip, the Granite Park students prepared dances and performances representing the school’s incredibly diverse student population. Other departments at the school contributed by making fleece blankets and candy leis for the Ute Tribe’s Red Spirit Drummers and local veterans and teachers.
