Board Member Mid-Term Replacement Interviews
The board interviewed seven individuals who submitted their names for consideration to fill the vacancy of resigning Granite School District board member Sarah Meier (Precinct IV). Meier will resign her position in July, vacating a four-year term that began in January 2017. After 20 years of service on the board, Meier is leaving to serve an LDS mission with her husband.
The interviewees were: Eric Jensen, Florence Graham, Nicole McDermott, Mike Fraser, Cory King, Lynette Wendel, and Carrie Johnson.
The board will vote to appoint the new board member at the following month’s public meeting on Tuesday, July 11 at 7 p.m. The new board member will then be sworn in Tuesday, August 1 by the Salt Lake County Clerk.

Information Item
Steve Hogan, Director of Planning & Boundaries, presented an initial report of boundary study proposals. Three members of the public addressed the board concerning the Walker Lane Olympus/Cottonwood boundary study. The board made a motion to remove the Walker Lane Olympus/Cottonwood boundary study from the list. The other studies will continue with open house meetings in the fall.
Budget Hearing
Mitch Robison, Director of Budget Development, presented the proposed FY 2017-2018 budget to the board. The budget has been available on the district’s website since June 8 to provide the public an opportunity to view and comment.
After the presentation, the board opened the meeting to public comment. Two members of the public commented on the budget, specifically the educator market adjustment. The board voted to revise the 2016-2017 budget as presented, adopt the 2017-18 budget, set the tentative tax rate to be 0.006807, and scheduled a public truth in taxation hearing for Tuesday, August 1 at 6:15 p.m.
