any fees for elementary students is not fair and will unnecessarily exclude may students who don’t qualify for fee waiver or too proud to apply for one. the school district just got a huge tax increase, quit nickel and diming parents for every little thing.

      Hi Jack,
Elementary schools already assess fees for extracurricular programs that occur before or after school in which students voluntarily participate. As with clubs and programs at the secondary level, these fees offset costs associated with running a program, such as a instructor brought in to teach a subject. Many of these programs are sponsored by outside entities, and thus there is no charge for students to participate. The purpose of this schedule is to cap fees for various programs, not set a specific amount to be assessed. In any case, the board of education is re-studying this topic and we would encourage you to reach out to your board member directly.
If you are referring to the recent bond that was approved by voters, those funds can only be used for school building improvements and rebuilds.

The Elementary Fee Schedule sounds absolutely horrible for a family to put out that kind of money for activities that are supposed to enhance a student’s education. Many families typically have 2, 3, or 4 students and it always seems to hurt those families who fall just above the qualifications for the “Income Eligibility Guidelines”. Please rethink this and also think about the families in the Granite District who would be devastated if this passed.

Elementary schools already charge fees for different extracurricular programs. Some are sponsored and carry no cost, but others require expenses that fees offset. This schedule does not stipulate the exact cost for each type of program. It simply identifies a cap that cannot be exceeded. In any case, the board is continuing to study this issue, and we would encourage you to contact your board member.
