Tumaini<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Tumaini On-the-Go is a program consisting of Professional Support Teams (PST)* who are responsible for the immediate registration and enrollment of new refugees upon their arrival in Granite district. Newcomer students will be registered and enrolled by their boundary school, and a referral form will be submitted for each new student. Participants and their families will receive individual attention and support through constant communication with the teams. The focus will be on culture transition, academic skills, and social immersion at school, in the classroom, and at home. Students will receive ongoing support for as long as necessary and will continue to be monitored throughout their time in the Granite district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After students have been enrolled in their schools, designated liaisons and the PST will continue to conduct personal school and home visits to assess ongoing needs and monitor academic growth. In addition, teachers and staff will receive teaching resources and support as they teach, build relationships, and provide a sense of belonging to all students. To promote family engagement, parents will be taught computer skills, given access to interpreters, and introduced to local family and community engagement centers, including the refugee Share House, where household items, necessities, and other resources can be obtained without cost. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

*Professional Support Teams (PST) will include:<\/strong> District Administrator, Teacher Specialist, Refugee Liaison, and a school representative (ALP Lead Teacher or school administrator).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tumaini Summer Academy<\/strong> \u2014 a free program for refugee and newcomer students arriving after January 1st, 2026. Grades K\u201312.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Location:<\/strong> Lincoln Elementary, 450 E. 3700 S., Salt Lake City, UT<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schedule:<\/strong> Monday\u2013Thursday, 9:00 a.m.\u20132:00 p.m. Session dates June 29\u2013July 17 (no school Fridays).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Registration opens:<\/strong> May 18<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students in grades 9\u201312 can earn 0.25 credits by completing the 12-day session. Lunch will be served. Buses available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
