Creating a New Sway
You have three options for creating a new Sway:
- Create New – Start a Sway from scratch.
- Start from a Topic – Start by giving Sway a topic and an outline will be automatically created for you.
- Start from a Document – Import a Word, PowerPoint, or PDF document to begin your Sway.
Adding Content to Your Sway
Content in Sway is organized into Cards. To add content, simply click on the card in the Card menu on the left for the type of content you would like to insert into your presentation. You can also add content by clicking on the green plus sign in the bottom left corner of a content card. You can easily reorganize the outline of your presentation by dragging the content cards into the order you’d like.
Heading cards allow you to group cards into sections of your presentation. You can select background images for your headings, by clicking in the Background box in the Heading card.
You can type or paste text into Text cards. You can use the basic text features available to emphasize or accent your text or to create Hyperlinks.
Use the Media cards to insert images, videos, audio, or embed codes from other websites. Images, video, and audio can be found online (using Creative Commons) or uploaded from your computer or OneDrive account. With Embed codes, you can embed all sorts of media including Tweets and interactive web resources.
Group cards are for inserting groups of images. The different cards will change how the images will appear in your presentation. Simply click on the type of group you would like and then select the images you would like to include.
When you click on Add to insert media onto a card, the Insert tab – where you can select the media you would like to insert – opens. You can also insert media by going directly to the Insert tab. Sway will provide many options of suggested media for you. All of the images that are suggested are available through Creative Commons licensing. You can use the Search sources box to search for content. Finally, you can click on the drop-down arrow next to Suggested to open up a menu of other sources for content including your OneDrive account and your computer. Through OneDrive, you can embed Word Documents, PowerPoints, and Excel Spreadsheets.
