West Lake Jr. High entered a brief SECURE protocol at the direction of law enforcement as school was releasing. The protocol was initiated by law enforcement out of an abundance of caution due to suspicious activity in the neighborhood near the school. The protocol was released after just a few minutes as law enforcement determined that the situation had been resolved.

To be clear, there was no direct threat to our students or school. School release was delayed by a few minutes for some students.

During a Secure Protocol, the outside doors are locked, and no one is allowed in or out of the building. To reiterate, this protocol was initiated out of an abundance of caution at the direction of law enforcement.
