The Granite School District is committed to protecting students from all forms of bullying. Granite School District students have the right to a safe, caring, and respectful learning environment in which all students can realize their maximum potential and fully engage in the learning process. Our goal is to raise awareness of bullying as an unacceptable form of behavior (\u201cprevention\u201d) and to have procedures in place to deal with bullying behavior when it occurs (\u201cintervention\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Utah Law (UC 53G-9-601) defines bullying in this manner:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

(a) “Student bullying” means one or more students, with the intent<\/strong> to cause harm, repeatedly<\/strong> committing a written, verbal, or physical act against another student, or engaging in a single egregious act toward another student involving an imbalance of power<\/strong>, that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(i)creates an environment that a reasonable person would find hostile; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(ii) interferes with a student’s educational performance, opportunities, or benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(b) “Student bullying” does not mean instances of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(i) ordinary teasing, horseplay, argument, or peer conflict;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(ii) reasonable correction of behavior by a school employee; or<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(iii) reasonable coaching strategies and techniques by a school employee who is a coach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
