Could not hear his comments on Christmas
Could you just tell us what he was trying to say?

What a very nice message to send out to all employees, students, and parents. Well done!

Thank you for the message this month! I am a Kindergarten teacher and love being able to teach about different customs around the world such as Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Ramadan, and Christmas. It is my favorite thing to teach all year because we discuss how everyone around the world celebrates different things and in different ways. The beliefs are so varied at the school I teach at the kids love learning how others celebrate around the world!
I hope all may have a wonderful holiday/winter season!

I tried to access the Christmas blog video on IE and Firefox and both said “an error occurred. Please try again later.” My machine or a problem with the feed? Just wondering. I would love to watch it.

Shari Fullmer » I would try another computer or look up the video directly on our youtube site.
Good to know, however the sound quality on this video is very low…I’ve turned my computer all the way up and you are hard to hear.

The Band and Orchestra Concert next Wednesday December 7, 7:00 PM at Brockbank Jr. High will include, “Have a Reggae Christmas, Mon”, “Have a Merryachi Christmas”, “The Dreidle Song”, “Hannukah on Hannukah” and “Jingle Bell Boogie” and “African Noel”. I teach much about religion, how religions, all of them, influence music and most of all, why we are tolerant in this country of religious beliefs. Thank you for your good words and come to our concert.

Love it! I just wish my neighborhood district (Canyons) would see it the same way. Very well done, Dr. Bates!

While we are on the subject, every year I hear some choir students complain that they are offended at being required to sing hymns and even more offended that they are required to perform at a significant number of LDS wards during the Christmas season. Every year when the choir goes to Disneyland, they make a stop at all the LDS temples along the way. Is this appropriate? My daughter had a particular problem with this.

Georgia Vallejos » This is an interesting area of the law – for a number of reasons (which would be familiar to long-time Utah residents), the law is fairly well developed in Utah. The State has both a specific law (Utah Code 53A-13-101.1 et seq.: Maintaining Constitutional Freedom in the Public Schools) and regulation (Utah Administrative Code R277-105: Recognizing Constitutional Freedoms in the Schools) on point. I would be happy to meet with students (and their parents of course) who are concerned. Please encourage them to contact me directly!

Christmas may not be banned but the video won’t play because of the filtering problems on YouTube!

Aimee Duran » Are you not able to play it directly off of the blog?
