What is Opening Institute?
Granite School District’s Opening Institute is a celebration of all things Granite as we prepare to undertake another exciting school year. Opening Institute is a chance for us to gather together and recognize all members of the school district who have contributed so much to the day-to-day operations and successes of the district. During Opening Institute, we will hear from staff and student speakers as well as Superintendent Nye who will share his vision for the district and appreciation for all employees who make Granite the best school district in the state.
When and Where
Granite School District’s 2023 Opening Institute will take place at the Mountain America Expo Center located at 9575 South State Street in Sandy, Utah. The event will take place on Thursday, August 10, 2023, and will run from 9:00 to lunchtime.
Transportation
Our transportation department will furnish busing to and from the event and all employees should plan on taking the provided buses. A limited number of parking passes will be made available for employees in need of special accessibility accommodations. Individual exceptions need to be approved by a supervisor, and you must receive a parking pass. Please refer to the Bus Location Drop Down menu for your school/location assignment. Buses will leave these locations exactly at 8:00 am. Don’t be late!
Breakfast and Lunch
A small grab-and-go breakfast will be provided at your local network high school pick-up location and the Granite Education Offices. Breakfast will only be available from 7:30 – 8:00 a.m. and breakfast items can be consumed on the bus.
Outside food and drink are not allowed inside the Mountain America Expo Center, but refillable water bottles will be allowed inside the expo center.
Lunch, sponsored by the Board of Education, will be provided after the event. Lunch locations and plans are specific to network and individual schools, please check with your supervisor for specific information about lunchtime meals.
Show Your Spirit!
We encourage district employees to show their network, school, or department spirit by dressing up in colors and gear that reflects your school or department pride. The school or department with the most flare will be recognized during the event.
