November 26, 2024 Update

We appreciate the feedback we’ve received from our students and constituents about our designs for some new restrooms at the new Cyprus and Skyline High schools. Those restroom areas with the new design will be designated for a specific gender, with the main and third floors being designated for female students and the second floor being designated for male students. The remaining nine restrooms in each school are a traditional design and already designated for specific genders.

The new designs were, and continue to be, intended to provide a secondary option for students who do not feel comfortable using a traditional bathroom at school. 

The design has two large entrances which lead to individual small rooms with toilets. Each room will have one toilet and floor-to-ceiling doors and walls, providing more safety and privacy than traditional restroom stalls. The hand washing area in these new restrooms is entirely open to the hallway space which allows for more safety and supervision intended to curb issues, like vaping and harassment, that unfortunately occur most often in traditional enclosed restrooms.
