Granite School District is fortunate to have some of the most dedicated and talented educators anywhere. As spring arrives, students are showcasing the skills and knowledge they’ve built throughout the year through summative assessments. These moments are powerful indicators of the impact of your teaching and the learning that’s taken place. I’m thrilled to see so many examples of growth, excellence, and resilience across our schools. Richard DuFour reminds us that “the fundamental purpose of school is to ensure all students learn, and the success of that mission is measured by results.” I am confident that, by continuing to collaborate and support one another, we’ll keep seeing students reach—and exceed—their potential. Thank you for everything you do for the students of Granite School District.
This week let’s recognize Katrina Gillespie, principal at Redwood Elementary. Here’s what one of his teachers had to say about her:
“I am nominating Katrina for this award because of the incredible support and leadership she has shown to the students and staff at Redwood. Here are a few examples of Katrina’s meaningful efforts and the positive impact she has had on our school community. This year has been especially challenging and her dedication to our team never wavered. Katrina is our biggest cheerleader. She goes out of her way to celebrate both student and teacher successes, building a culture of appreciation and positivity. Two of my favorite traditions that she has established at Redwood are:
Friday Assemblies – Each week, students and staff are recognized for positive behavior throughout the school—in the lunchroom, hallways, recess, and classrooms. Teachers are also celebrated for their work with progress monitoring, instructional improvements, and supporting one another.
Friday Parent Phone Calls – Katrina uses Blackboard to send out weekly updates to families, sharing important information and school highlights. It’s a wonderful way she helps parents stay informed and engaged.
Katrina’s leadership has helped Redwood remain a strong, connected, and caring community, even during a time of transition and uncertainty. She truly deserves to be recognized for her unwavering commitment to our school.”
