Teachers, your impact extends far beyond the walls of your classroom. Every moment of high-quality instruction not only advances academic learning but also builds the structure, engagement, and belonging that ties students to the learning.. John Hattie indicates that, “The greatest effects on student learning occur when teachers become learners of their own teaching”. This emphasis on self-reflection leads to clarity, consistency, and connection in the classroom. Robert Marzano’s research echoes this truth, showing that “well-managed classrooms are the result of effective instruction, not the cause of it.” When students are deeply engaged in meaningful, well-structured lessons, they find purpose and direction that displaces disruption. Harry Wong has famously stated, “The number one problem in the classroom is not discipline; it is the lack of procedures and routines,” both of which thrive under excellent teaching. Your dedication to thoughtful, intentional instruction not only nurtures the mind but also shapes the character and behavior of every student who walks through your door. Thank you for all you do to help all students in Granite to grow and persevere through whatever life has thrown at them.
This week, we’re happy to highlight Mark Ellermeier, principal of Taylorsville High School. Here’s what one of him teachers had to say about him:
“It is with deep gratitude that I take this opportunity to recognize the leadership and dedication of Principal Mark Ellermeier at Taylorsville High School. When Mr. Ellermeier joined our community, it was during a time of transition and healing, following the passing of a beloved principal. Stepping into such a role is never easy, but Mr. Ellermeier has done so with compassion, steadiness, and an open heart. He has provided not only stability but also a vision of growth and support for both students and staff. In particular, his advocacy for the performing arts has made a profound difference. Under his leadership, our music, theatre, and dance programs feel valued, supported, and genuinely heard. He has created an environment where the voices of teachers and students are acknowledged, and where the importance of creativity and expression is championed. His willingness to listen, to engage in thoughtful dialogue, and to provide meaningful support has strengthened our programs and uplifted our students. We are truly fortunate to have a principal who understands the importance of the arts in shaping well-rounded, confident, and inspired young people. Thank you, Principal Ellermeier, for your unwavering support, your openness, and your dedication to ensuring that every student feels seen, heard, and valued. Additionally, Mr. Ellermeier has made thoughtful changes to maintain a safe and orderly environment, such as improving hallway management, while still fostering a welcoming atmosphere for students. His balance of firm leadership and genuine care has positively impacted both the day-to-day operations of the school and the overall school culture. In short, Mark Ellermeier is a principal who leads with integrity, supports the arts, and listens to his community. His contributions to Taylorsville High School have been substantial and meaningful, and he is deserving of the highest praise for his efforts.”

Thank you, Mark! We appreciate you and all you do for your students, staff, and community at Taylorsville High.
