As we begin a new semester in Granite School District, I want to express sincere appreciation for the professionalism, commitment, and daily effort you bring to your classrooms. Teachers are the single most important school-based variable in a student’s academic success, and the work you do—planning, instructing, assessing, and responding to students in real time—shapes outcomes in ways no program or policy ever could. Your influence extends far beyond content knowledge; you build confidence, establish high expectations, and create the conditions where learning can flourish. As John Hattie reminds us, “The greatest effects on student learning occur when teachers become learners of their own teaching,” and that reflective, growth-oriented mindset is evident across our district. Thank you for your dedication to students and to the craft of teaching as we move forward into the new semester together.
This week let’s recognize Heidi Draper, principal of Academy Park Elementary. Here’s what some of her educators had to say about her:
“Since Ms. Draper became principal at Academy Park Elementary, our school has experienced incredible growth academically, culturally and as a community. Her leadership has transformed our school into a place where students, teachers and families feel supported, valued and inspired to grow. Ms. Draper leads by example. She is always visible and involved, greeting students each morning, jumping into classrooms to lend a hand, or joining activities alongside our staff and students. She is not afraid to be silly in front of the kids. They absolutely love her for it. Her joy and humor create a school environment that feels safe, welcoming and fun. She continuously encourages teachers to improve their practice and provides meaningful opportunities for professional growth. Whether it is through collaborative discussions, new instructional strategies or targeted feedback, Ms. Draper helps each of us become stronger educators. Under her leadership, Academy Park has become a thriving learning community. Our academic growth is evident, but so is the positive energy that fills our halls. Ms. Draper’s dedication, vision and genuine care for others make her an outstanding leader who truly deserves recognition.
Heidi is such an amazing person! She brings so much positivity and creativity to our community! She truly cares about every single student, staff member, and family! Her ability to see the bright side and creativity problem solve as a team has made such a difference in both our school and our community. Heidi is a wonderful listener as she is empathetic and great at assuming positive intent. She is thoughtful and full of energy! Her willingness to try new ideas talk through hard things is refreshing! We all know that Heidi is there for us each and every day!”

Thank you, Heidi! We appreciate you and all you do for the students, staff, and community of Academy Park.
