Testing Season Reminders
Testing season is right around the corner, and as a parent, you play a crucial role in setting your student up for success. A little preparation at home can make a big difference in their confidence and performance (pdf).
Here are some tips to help your student do their best:
- Get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast.
- Make the morning relaxing and arrive at school on time.
- Encourage your student to pace themself, read questions carefully, and take their time.
Here’s why state tests are important:
- They are an independent measure of your child’s learning.
- You can see if your child is on target for their grade level, and how they compare to peers statewide.
- They help your child’s teacher know what’s working in the classroom and what can be improved.
- All educators at your child’s school can see if education goals are being met.
- They inform the school district if certain schools need additional support.
- Results are used by state leaders to coordinate additional funding and resources.

Safe Schools Message
DID YOU KNOW?
Creating or sharing fake threats of violence on social media is not only irresponsible but also illegal. Even making a joke regarding a weapon or a threat is a violation and can result in severe consequences, which may include some or all of the following:
- A minimum 10-day suspension
- Safe School Referral (which can include a longer suspension or removal from school)
- Criminal charges
Bringing weapons onto school property is strictly prohibited and illegal. If you are caught bringing a weapon to school, you will be referred to Safe School, likely be removed from your school for a minimum of one year, and be subject to criminal prosecution.
Be assured that Granite District police investigate every potential threat to our schools. Let’s work together to create a community where everyone feels secure, respected, and able to focus on their education.
If you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your teachers, counselors, or school administrators. If you ever observe a social media threat or suspect that another student has brought a weapon onto a school campus, you can report the situation 24/7 to Granite Dispatch at 801-481-7122 or report it on the SafeUT app.
Thank you for your help and support as we work to keep our schools safe.
