At this time of year, when assessments are underway and the work of teaching becomes especially visible, I want to express deep appreciation for what you do every single day. You invest time, energy, and care into helping students learn, grow, and demonstrate what they know. That effort matters—more than any single test score can capture.
While proficiency is always our goal, the true measure of impact is growth. Helping each student move forward—even a small step—is meaningful progress. When every student gets just a little bit better, the collective impact is extraordinary.
As Robert Marzano reminds us, “The most effective educators are those who consistently help students make measurable progress, regardless of where they start.” That is exactly the work you are doing.
Thank you for believing in your students, for pushing them, supporting them, and guiding them—especially during moments that can feel high-pressure. Your influence extends far beyond a testing window. You are building confidence, capability, and a foundation for lifelong success.
This week I’d like to recognize Allie Terrazas, the principal of Rolling Meadows Elementary. Here’s some of what her teachers had to say about her:
“Allie Terrazas is exactly what a person could want in an administrator. She leads through action, with empathy, and by example. Every day she works hard to make Rolling Meadows a safe, inclusive, and effective school community. When our school needed people to dress as a book character and read to the students, she showed-up fully decked-out. She is always looking for ways to help our students, diving into data and willing to try new approaches to help our academically struggling students get more support. When severe needs have arose, she is the person who is willing to go to bat to advocate for the students. She is so dedicated not only our students, but the staff as well. She never hesitates to jump in with tricky situations, relieve an overwhelmed teacher for a few minutes, and tell you that you are doing a great job and she loves you. Allie is always the fearless leader we all look to in tough situations. Her ability to handle things with grace and patience is admirable. Allie has been an ally for students and teachers alike, and she deserves to know how much it is appreciated. Rolling Meadows is lucky to have her.”

Thank you, Allie! We sincerely appreciate all the effort you put into supporting your students, educators, and the community of Rolling Meadows.
