4th Quarter Grading Adjustments

April 2020Granite Schools

State officials have announced the continuation of distance learning through the end of the school year. In conjunction with Utah State Board of Education guidance, the following grading practices will be implemented in Granite School District for the 4th quarter.

For the remainder of the school year, teachers will keep student scores in Gradebook up to date. Gradebook calculates a grade or proficiency level after scores are entered. Teachers, students and parents can continue to monitor scores throughout the quarter. Mid-term and final grades will be posted by teachers in regular fashion.

ELEMENTARY GRADING

Students will be issued a PASS or INCOMPLETE grade for the 4th quarter of the 2019-2020 school year.

Proficiency-Based Learning4th Quarter Grade
1.00 - 4.00Pass
0.00 - 0.99Incomplete

In place of the grades above, families may request that a proficiency level in Gradebook be posted on the student’s records. This request needs to be made in writing and delivered to the front office of the school, or via email to the principal. This request may be made any time during the 4th quarter, or any time after the final grades are posted.

Students with an Incomplete will have until October 22, 2020, to improve their 4th quarter grade to a Pass. Otherwise, the incomplete will change to a zero.

Citizenship scores will not be entered for the 4th quarter.

JUNIOR HIGH/HIGH SCHOOL GRADING

Students will be issued an A or a 4, PASS, or INCOMPLETE for the 4th quarter of the 2019-2020 school year.

A Pass grade will not affect a student’s GPA.

In place of the grades above, families may request for a recorded letter grade (grades 9-12) or proficiency level (grades 6-8) in Gradebook be posted as a final grade. This request needs to be made in writing and delivered to the school’s main office, or via email to the principal. This request may be made any time during the quarter or any time after final grades are posted.

Students with an Incomplete will have until October 22, 2020, to improve their 4th quarter grade to a Pass. Otherwise, the Incomplete will change to a Zero (6-8) or an F (9-12).

Citizenship scores will not be entered. This will result in neither an increase or decrease in a student’s secondary school citizenship point average.
