Granite School District, in partnership with the Salt Lake County Youth Justice Coalition, sponsors a Youth Court program to help students take accountability for their actions in a supportive, restorative environment.
Youth Court provides an alternative to the traditional juvenile justice system for first-time, low-level offenses committed by students. Participants appear before a panel of trained youth volunteers who serve as judges, clerks, and advocates. The process focuses on education, service, and restitution rather than punishment, empowering students to learn from their mistakes while avoiding a criminal record.
Through this peer-driven approach, Youth Court promotes responsibility, empathy, leadership, and community involvement, helping both participants and volunteers build valuable life skills.
