FY26 Budget Update
The tax increase that was considered by Granite School District this year will NOT be implemented. The rate was not certified by the State. As such, your tax rate will NOT increase. Any increase in taxes related to Granite School District would be due to changes in property valuation, which is not determined by the District.
The District was looking to use the increase in funds to pay for:
- Grades K-2 class size reduction
- Offset a $4 million reduction in State funding
- Comply with unfunded State requirements related to school fees and security
- Additional school-level instructional needs
These needs will temporarily be met with recently reduced administrative costs, implementing a hiring freeze for non-school positions, and making reductions through attrition and other temporary savings measures.
What Happens Next?
The District will need to re-evaluate the tax rate again next year. We still face ongoing State cuts of $14 million over the next two years and must find ongoing revenue to pay for the increases faced this year with the class size reduction and enhanced instructional support.
Thank you for your continued support while the District navigates these ongoing budget challenges. Click here to learn more.
Holiday Mental Health
The holiday season can be a time of joy and connection, but it can also bring unique challenges for students, families, and staff. Granite School District recognizes that emotional well-being is as important as academic success, especially during this time of year. Stress, anxiety, and feelings of isolation can be heightened, and we are committed to ensuring our community members have access to the support they need.
For those seeking additional support, Utah offers a variety of resources to help individuals navigate holiday stress. The Utah Crisis Line (988) operates 24/7 for immediate assistance, and SafeUT app provides confidential chat and tip services for students, parents, and educators. Download their app, visit their website or call 833-372-3388
Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength, and no one has to face challenges alone. Granite School District is here to support every student and family during this season and beyond.

Winter Weather Reminders
Colder weather is here, along with the potential for winter driving conditions. First and foremost, please know that Granite School District aims to keep schools open whenever possible. Snow storms are a reality in the Salt Lake Valley, and though winter weather may present challenges, start time delays and distance learning days are rare. If you do not receive a notification of any kind of a start time delay or distance learning day, plan on school being open. Parents will receive a text and email in the event of any delayed start times or transitions to distance learning.
