PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Utah Legislature has allocate funding to teachers for classroom supplies. Granite School District has partnered with Amazon Business to create an efficient program to allow teachers to spend this funding with miminal aministrative burden for our teachers or for those that support them. It creates efficiencies in the administration, distribution and expending of Legislative Classroom Supply Funds as authorized by Utah Administrative Code R277-459. Funds will be allocated to each teacher through an Amazon Business account called a Teacher Wallet.

FAQs
Q: Why is my allocation different than last year?
A: In the 2024 legislative session, the state legislature passed HB105, which allocated additional funding to the teacher supplies and materials program. These changes provided for increased $500 allocations for elementary and pre-K “classroom teachers” and $250 allocations for secondary “classroom teachers”. These same funding levels were extended to 2025-26 during the 2025 legislative session. “Classroom teacher” has been defined in state statute and Utah State Board of Education (USBE) rule (R277-459) to mean an employee assigned to a permanent teacher position and who is primarily responsible to provide instruction to students in public schools. Additional language indicates that “classroom teacher” does not include school counselors or school specialists. Further, the USBE provided a list of teacher assignments that were eligible for state funding and the amount of funding they were eligible to receive. While this updated guidance decreased the allocation for certain employees, Granite made the decision to hold off on making these adjustments to allocations until the new 2025-26 year.
Recognizing that many of our educators who do not meet the definition of “classroom teacher” in state statute still incur costs for supplies and materials, Granite has made a budgetary commitment to its educators by supplementing the state dollars allocated to the program with a District contribution. This District funding allows all contract Granite employees placed on the teacher salary schedule to receive a supply allocation of at least $250. Educators who qualify for the $500 allocation under state statute and USBE rule will receive $500, while all other GSD educators receive $250. See the 2025-26 Teacher Supplies & Materials Allocation Amounts for details.
The following educators will notice a change in their allocation (from $500 to $250) in 2025-26 as a result of the clarifications and additional guidance provided by the USBE:
- Secondary special education teachers
- Elementary school literacy coaches
- Intern classroom teachers
- Other elementary employees considered to be school specialists based on their assignment information in CACTUS (the USBE database that houses data on educator credentials and assignments)
