Health

The mission of Health Curriculum is to give students the resources they need to be healthy individuals. Research shows that healthy, fit kids learn best, and that exercise has a positive impact on brain chemistry and function. Granite School District adheres to the state and federal laws for wellness.  All students in Granite School District will learn about the importance of nutrition, wellness, avoidance of substances that are harmful to developing bodies, and disease prevention and the impact of their choices on their health and well-being.  They will be taught the skills they need to make good, healthy choices that will impact their lives in a positive manner.

Sex Education Committee

The Sex Education Committee is required by state law and functions on a rotational basis. The Committee reviews materials which teachers would like to use in their classes that are not on the district approved list. The Committee is made up of district administration, school administrators, school nurses, psychologists, district health specialists, PTA representatives, K-12 teachers, and parents.

The Granite School District’s Sex Education Committee meets to discuss programs that deal with sex education and then votes to approve or disapprove of having those programs available for teachers to use in their classrooms.

If you are interested in being a member of this committee, please contact Jenny Grosh 385-646-4641

GSD Maturation Program Guidelines

Instructional materials used in courses or programs dealing with sex education not included in the Utah State Board of Education Recommended Instructional Materials Searchable database must be submitted to the Granite District Sex Education Committee for review and approval.  Materials may be submitted for consideration throughout the year to Jenny Grosh, in the Curriculum and Instruction Department, 385-646-4641.  The committee convenes biannually in the fall and spring to consider materials and solicit Board of Education approval on its recommendations for the following academic year.  Please direct any inquiries on currently approved materials or the materials review process to Jenny Grosh.
