Yesterday was Digital Learning Day, and we marked the occasion by hosting our monthly #GSDEdTech Teacher Chat. Lorraine Wyness is the Library Media Educational Technology Specialist (LMETS) at Taylorsville High School. The spotlight video above shows just a couple of the ways she makes the school’s library media center a welcoming and engaging place for her students. In addition to managing the library, Ms. Wyness also provides technology integration training and support to teachers schoolwide. She is an incredible asset to her school.

The Granite School District FIRST LEGO League qualifying tournament was held on January 16, 2016 at Granger High School. Granite School District’s Educational Technology Department sponsors 30 teams in the First Lego League. We had a tremendous amount of fun, and learned a lot this year!
The students were excited to see approximately 500 parents attend to watch their LEGO Robots compete. In addition to competing in the robot games, the teams also explained their robot designs, presented an innovative product to address the issue of Trash, and solved a problem as a team during judging sessions.

The Utah Coalition for Educational Technology is holding their annual conference on March 17 & 18, 2016 at the University of Utah. This conference provides many hands-on breakout sessions on ways to utilize technology in teaching and learning, and is perfect for educators of every grade level or subject area who are interested in technology integration. Their theme for the March conference is “Tech Madness,” with Thurl Bailey and Ginger Lewman as featured keynote speakers. A Google education summit is coming to Granite School District this June.
